July Weather in Amed: A Closer Look
July delivers Amed at its diving peak. Just 15 mm of rain over a single day, the lowest humidity of the year at 66%, and daytime temperatures of 31Β°C with a cool 23Β°C overnight make this the most comfortable month. The southeast trades blow steadily, keeping the air fresh. Underwater visibility at Tulamben's USAT Liberty wreck regularly touches 25β30 metres β extraordinary clarity that allows divers to take in the entire 120-metre hull from a single vantage point. The wreck's population of reef fish is astounding: giant trevally, barracuda, surgeonfish, angelfish, and the famous bumphead parrotfish school. Sea turtles rest on the wreck structure. At depth, black tip reef sharks patrol the stern in 20β28 metres. This is also the start of the mola mola (ocean sunfish) season, when these enormous flat fish rise from the depths to be cleaned by cleaner wrasse at certain dive sites. Despite being peak season, Amed receives far fewer visitors than southern Bali; dive sites are busy in comparison to the low season but never chaotic. Early morning dives before 8 am remain peaceful. Accommodation fills up particularly on weekends β advance booking is strongly recommended.
