August Weather in Amed: A Closer Look
August is the pinnacle of Amed's year. Just 10 mm of rain across a single day, 64% humidity β the lowest of the year β and daytime temperatures of 31Β°C with overnight lows of 22Β°C that make sleeping without air conditioning genuinely comfortable. The southeast trade winds blow reliably, the air is crystalline, and the Lombok Strait shimmers in intense blue-green clarity. Underwater visibility at Tulamben's USAT Liberty wreck can reach 25β30 metres on the best days, revealing the full extent of the encrusted hull and its extraordinary marine biodiversity. August is the prime mola mola month β these alien-looking ocean sunfish (up to 2 metres across) ascend from the deep thermocline to be cleaned at certain Bali dive sites, and Tulamben's deeper sections and the Seraya wall are reliable spots. Seeing a mola mola is one of the great scuba experiences anywhere in Indonesia. Black tip reef sharks, hawksbill turtles, giant trevally, and blue-spotted stingrays are commonly encountered. Indonesian Independence Day on August 17 brings heartfelt ceremonies in Amed's villages. Despite being peak season, Amed's visitor numbers remain manageable compared to southern Bali.
