Amed Weather in April

April is the month Amed's reputation for exceptional diving fully reasserts itself. With only 35 mm of rain over 4 days, the area is functionally in its dry season two months before southern Bali catches up. Temperatures peak at 34°C making it the warmest dry-season month — the volcanic black sand beaches radiate heat, so early morning and late afternoon activity is ideal. Underwater, the USAT Liberty wreck at Tulamben is in outstanding condition with visibility improving toward 20 metres by mid-month. The 120-metre cargo ship sits 3–30 metres below the surface, making it accessible to snorkelers and both novice and advanced divers. Schools of bumphead parrotfish congregate at the wreck's shallow stern in the early morning — sometimes 30 or more of these 1.5-metre fish cruise the structure together. The Jemeluk bay coral garden is equally impressive in April, with sea turtles resting on coral heads at 5–10 metres. Dive courses at local schools are excellent value and instructors are unhurried. The rugged coastal landscape of northeast Bali, with its dry volcanic hillsides and traditional jukung fishing boats, is photogenic in April's strong clear light.
