Snorkeling at Jemeluk bay is superb, with the coral garden's fish population at its most active in the pre-monsoon water temperature of 28–29°C. The Coral Garden site off Amed's main beach is also excellent in May. Amed's village atmosphere is lovely in this period — local fishermen are active, the salt-farming process is underway on the beach, and dive operators are busy but not overwhelmed.
