Sanur Weather in January

January is Sanur's wettest month with around 320 mm of rainfall over 25 days, yet the east-facing bay protected by an offshore reef delivers a notably calmer beach experience than the west coast. The reef absorbs the worst of any swell and the bay stays swimmable even when Kuta's currents make swimming dangerous. Temperatures sit at 31°C daytime and 24°C overnight with humidity at 84%. Heavy afternoon downpours are routine but mornings are often bright and warm, making the beach walkable before midday. Sanur's famous 4-kilometre beachfront promenade is at its least crowded and most local in January — vendors are sparse, outrigger boats bob lazily, and the pace is unhurried. The reef-protected waters make January one of the better months for kitesurfing when trade winds mix with the monsoon, and the beach remains suitable for paddleboarding in the morning. Accommodation rates are at their annual low — quality hotels that cost USD 150/night in August can be negotiated to USD 60–80 in January. Sanur's concentration of good restaurants and galleries means rainy afternoons are never dull. The beachfront morning market and local food scene are excellent year-round.
