Transport Tips for Bali
Grab & Gojek
Download both apps before you arrive. They offer the cheapest rides for short to medium distances. Note that ride-hailing pickups are restricted at the airport — walk to the designated pickup zone or use the official taxi queue instead.
Scooter Rental
Renting a scooter (IDR 70,000-100,000/day) is the most popular way to get around. Make sure you have an international driving permit and always wear a helmet. Traffic can be intense, especially in south Bali.
Private Drivers
For day trips or longer journeys, hiring a private driver (IDR 500,000-700,000/day) is comfortable and hassle-free. Your driver doubles as a local guide and can take you to hidden spots off the tourist trail.
Fast Boats
Fast boats connect Bali to the Nusa Islands and Gili Islands. Book in advance during peak season (July-August, December). Departs mainly from Sanur and Padang Bai harbors.
Shuttle Buses
Companies like Perama and Kura-Kura Bus run shuttle services between major tourist areas. Budget-friendly but slower due to multiple stops. Great for solo travelers or those on a tight budget.
Metered Taxis
Blue Bird is the most reputable metered taxi company in Bali. Always insist on the meter being used. At the airport, use the official taxi counter to avoid being overcharged.
